Vernon Jones Makes the Switch to the GOP Official

Well, he’s done it. Georgia Representative Vernon Jones has finally made the switch to the Republican Party.

On Wednesday, Jones announced via his Twitter account that he was making the switch and promising to stand and “fight” for what our country needs in a time when it is desperately needed.

He wrote, “Now, more than ever, the Republican party is in desperate need of leaders that know how to fight. I know how to fight.”

And fight he most certainly does.

If you remember, Jones made massive political waves last April when he announced that he would vote for and support President Donald Trump for re-election.

Naturally, as he was a lifelong Democrat and a black American, the decision was deemed a betrayal from his own party. In fact, in the days immediately following his April announcement, he was nearly pushed out of the party he had once admired.

However, upon a closer inspection of the heart and what our nation needed at the time, Jones decided to stay a Democrat, promising that the party needed someone on the inside to push them back to reality and hold them accountable for their ever-left leaning actions.

Clearly, with the official announcement of Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden as the winner of the November 3 election, as well as the now-assumed victory of both Democrat Senate candidates in Georgia, Jones has decided that his time with the left has come to an end.

And it appears the political right couldn’t be happier about it.

Now, some have speculated that such a move, and at this exact time, could wind up giving the now conservative lawmaker a massive push to grow his political career, maybe even allowing him to take the title of either Senator or Governor during the next round of elections in 2022.

By the looks of the reactions on social media, I’d say that’s more than possible. People from all over, especially from the now jaded state of Georgia, are looking for new leadership. And it seems like Jones could be just what the doctor ordered.

Take a look at a few of these comments on his switch.

But is this the reason for his switch?

I have no doubts that the possibility of being seen in this light crossed Jones’ mind at least once during his time of consideration. And I can’t say I blame him. After all, who isn’t looking, at least on some level, to increase their career possibilities.

However, the timeliness of his announcement suggests he made the decision for more than just political gain.

Wednesday will long be seen, or at least for the next couple of years, as a day of significant loss for the Republican Party. Not only was it officially announced in Congress that Trump would no longer be our president in the coming weeks, but it looks as though our majority in the Senate is nearly lost.

Thanks to the assumed win, whether legal or not, of liberal candidates Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock over their conservative competitors in Georgia, the Senate will now stand at a near tie on most legislation issues, at least as long as partisan lines are kept. To break the deadlock, as is the precedent, the vice president will be given the decision.

And we all know how that’s going to go with Kamala Harris.

Suffice it to say that Wednesday was the beginning of another long four years of Democrat control, similar to the day when Obama was announced the winner of his second term, and both the Senate and House were named to be in a Democrat majority.

Republicans everywhere were given reason to fear and dread what it is to come. And it would be far too easy for many to give up the fight and surrender.

Jones, however, is giving us a reason not to.

With his simple announcement, he makes sure that conservatives everywhere understand that while it seems we may have lost the battle, the war is not over. As he says, “now, more than ever,” is the time when we need to stand and fight for the freedoms that are rightfully ours.

And he will be the first to put on his armor and pick up the sword.
