I think what we keep in mind is that liberals aren't operating out of strength when they oppress us, but weakness; they know as well as we do that their claim to power is illegitimate. It's the reason liberal hatred is at a maximum right now. As with the Bolsheviks prior to winning WWII, liberals are seen as illegitimate and can only rule by the worst kind of terror. What these liberals implicitly understand is what we need to explicitly understand, which is Hume's Paradox.
Hume's paradox states that no matter how tyrannical and corrupt a government, it can only rule with the consent of the governed. If a critical mass of citizens offer even passive resistance--what is called a general strike in leftist theory--then that regime cannot function. Controlling the guns isn't enough; government must control popular opinion, and right now Americans have withdrawn our consent, even if very passively.
As for the "sunshine patriots", here is what Thomas Paine had to say about the same problem back during the American Revolution. These are some of the most famous words written in American history, and they are well worth remembering now:
“THESE are the times that try men's souls. The summer soldier and the sunshine patriot will, in this crisis, shrink from the service of their country; but he that stands by it now, deserves the love and thanks of man and woman. Tyranny, like hell, is not easily conquered; yet we have this consolation with us, that the harder the conflict, the more glorious the triumph. What we obtain too cheap, we esteem too lightly: it is dearness only that gives every thing its value. Heaven knows how to put a proper price upon its goods; and it would be strange indeed if so celestial an article as FREEDOM should not be highly rated”
The problem, of course, is that Trump is the only leader we have worthy of the name, as well as the fact that liberals have a death lock on virtually all of our institutions. We Americans, by contrast, only have two things on our side: rational and moral truth, and each other. The good news is this is all we need if only we will use these advantages.
