A Judge Put Maxine Waters on Notice in This High-Profile Criminal Case
Maxine Waters just created a giant scandal for the Democrat Party.
But Waters’ troubles are extending beyond the realm of politics and into a courtroom.
Now a judge put Maxine Waters on notice in this high-profile criminal case.
Maxine Waters caused an uproar when she traveled across state lines to Minnesota to urge Black Lives Matter to take to the streets and confront police if a jury acquitted Officer Derek Chauvin on charges he murdered George Floyd last May.
“I hope we get a verdict that says guilty, guilty, guilty,” Waters ranted to the press. “And if we don’t, we cannot go away. We’ve got to stay on the street. We get more active, we’ve got to get more confrontational. We’ve got to make sure that they know that we mean business.”
Black Lives Matter rioters already staged six days of violence and rioting in Brooklyn Center, Minnesota and other cities across the country.
Nancy Pelosi said Waters did not need to apologize, which critics contend put Democrats on the side of insurrection and street warfare against the police.
But now Waters’ remarks could affect the Chauvin trial.
After closing remarks, Judge Peter Cahill lit into Waters claiming her comments opened up the very good possibility that if the jury convicts Chauvin, his defense team can win an appeal to throw the guilty verdict out because Waters threatened the jurors with violence if they did not convict Chauvin.
“I’ll give you that Congresswoman Waters may have given you something on appeal that may result in this whole trial being overturned,” Judge Cahill declared.
But Judge Cahill also noted that Waters’ comments did not rise to the level of causing a mistrial.
Cahil I’m aware of the media reports, I’m aware that Congresswoman Waters was talking specifically about this trial, and about the unacceptability of anything less than a murder conviction, talked about being confrontational — but you can submit the press articles about that. This goes back to what I’ve been saying from the beginning. I wish elected officials would stop talking about this case, especially in a manner that is disrespectful to the rule of law, and to the judicial branch and our function. I think if they want to give their opinions, they should do so in a respectful, and in a manner that is respectful to the Constitution, to respect the co-equal branch of government. Their failure to do so, I think, is abhorrent, but I don’t think it has prejudiced this, with additional material that would prejudice this jury. … A congresswoman’s opinion really doesn’t matter a whole lot.”
Democrats see the Black Lives Matter insurrection as politically advantageous which is why many in the party cheer on the violence, looting and rioting.
But that support for mayhem in the streets may come back to bite the left in a very painful way.
