Gabbard Slams Pelosi After Report She Denied Congresswoman’s Son Access to Swearing-in Ceremony
With as much as Democrats have broken COVID-19 protocols, one would think the House Speaker would bend the rules for a service member to see his mother get sworn in for the first time as a member of Congress.
The problem, however, was that the member was a Republican.
House Speaker Pelosi (D-CA) apparently decided that was all that was needed to deny Rep. Claudia Tenney’s (R-N.Y.) son, an active duty Marine, access to the ceremony to see his mother sworn-in.
Sorry, But NO!
Tenney, as you may recall, had her seat delayed due to the closeness of the race.
Tenney won her seat by a mere 109 votes, which led to the incumbent Democrat opponent filing a case to have the election overturned.
Ironically, the case that was made to have this race overturned was fairly identical to the case Trump made, only nobody objected to it.
The election objections finally worked their way through the process and Tenney held the seat, so her swearing-in ceremony was finally held on Thursday.
Tenney requested that her son, a Naval Academy graduate and active-duty Marine, be allowed to attend, but Pelosi denied the request.
Gabbard, a former Democrat congresswoman from Hawaii, shredded Pelosi for the declination.
Gabbard tweeted out her objection on Twitter, questioning why Pelosi would do such a thing and hinting that this seemed to be more about partisan pettiness than anything else…
Tenney did not expect her son to be on the floor but rather in the gallery simply so he could see the ceremony in person.
Instead, he “waited outside the gallery door” and congratulated his mother afterward.
The excuse provided by Hammill is absolute nonsense, of course, because during the regular ceremony on January 3, family members were allowed to be present.
On that date, the Attending Physician and Sergeant at Arms gave a special dispensation, but not this time around.
You see, the rules change when you are a Republican who just brought Pelosi one step closer to losing her gavel.
