Donald Trump opened the door for celebrity candidates to run for office and win.

But no one saw this coming.

And an Academy Award-winning actor just floated the idea of running for office in a major red state.

Texas native and icon Matthew McConaughey began floating the idea of running for Governor of Texas in interviews.

Apparently, this is not a lark and the Academy Award-winning star of Dallas Buyers Club has been making calls to Texas power players to gauge how feasible a run for Governor in 2022 would be.

“But the Academy Award-winning actor’s interest goes a step further than musings in interviews. McConaughey has been quietly making calls to influential people in Texas political circles, including a deep-pocketed moderate Republican and energy CEO, to take their temperature on the race and to talk about seriously throwing his hat in the ring, according to multiple people familiar with the conversations,” POLITICO reports.

McConaughey describes himself as a committed centrist and raised questions about his political leanings when he began to attack the far-left and cancel culture.


In an appearance on ITV’s Good Morning Britain, McConaughey railed against “illiberal” views consuming the Left.

“You need liberals. What I don’t think we need is the illiberals, and what I don’t think that some liberals see is that they’re often being cannibalized by the illiberal,” McConaughey stated.

McConaughey added that it was leading to attacks on free speech in the form of cancel culture.


“Where the waterline is going to land on this freedom of speech, and what we allow and what we don’t and where this cancel culture goes . . . is a very interesting place that we’re engaged in right now as a society of trying to figure out, because we haven’t found the right spot,” McConaughey added.

Texas’ popular Republican Governor Greg Abbott already announced he will run for a third term.

No one knows what party McConaughey would choose if he ran for Governor.

McConaughey is a Texas institution closely associated with the sports programs of his alma mater, the University of Texas.

If McConaughey ran for Governor of Texas and began to take stands on controversial issues he could sacrifice that iconic status in his home state.

The Bridge: Suicide Isn't Painless

The theme song to the 1970 movie MASH is called "Suicide is Painless." It isn't, in ways I will try to explain. First of all, let's look at the act itself. Many suicide attempts are horribly botched. I recently asked an emergency medical technician what was the most unusual call he ever dealt with, and his immediate reply was someone who shot himself in the head with a .45 and survived. Rather than getting rid of his worldly problems, the man made them infinitely worse, not only for himself but many others as well. Several years ago, I watched a documentary film called The Bridge (2006) , which was about the people that jumped from the Golden Gate Bridge over the course of a year; 23 of the 24 (known) suicides from the bridge that year (2004) were recorded. Snuff films and/or anything related to them are far from my bag to say the least, but I felt compelled to watch this documentary, as my only brother killed himself by jumping from a bridge elsewhere
