STAR TREK TOS: SPECTRE OF THE GUN

What is reality?

That is a question that has been asked at least from the time of the ancient Greeks. I have thought about this problem for decades, and have come to the conclusion that an objective reality is impossible to define or determine. That conclusion is, of course, subjective, as are all of our perceptions. At the quantum level it is even worse - it seems that several realities coexist at the same time.

Another way to look at the problem is to assume for a moment that there is another party to this existence, that is a maker or creator. Although I do not think there is one, I have no way of definitively knowing that, any more than a believer has definitive knowledge that a maker or creator exists. So for the sake of argument, we can assume for a moment that a maker or creator does exist.

That implies that there are at least TWO realities, the first reality of the maker or creator, and our second reality, which would naturally be subordinate to the first reality of the maker or creator. The implications of this are an interesting mental exercise. Our reality would be a contrivance or illusion from which we cannot escape - a literal "dream in the mind of god", that could again be made unreal with a single thought of the maker or creator.

Enough of that - in the next few days I plan to put up a series on the Constitution like I did on the old channel, and I have found some essays I did on the Bill of Rights a good while back, challenging the idea that rights come from a god, when clearly they come from man. I then go further, postulating that the Bill of Rights are at best privileges and at worst little more than lies, considering the history behind them, and their selective application since the inception of the Constitution. Hopefully you will find them interesting reading, although I will have to heavily edit and update them before I make such posts.

Now to the TOS episode "Spectre of the Gun", which explores the idea of contrived realities and illusions...
