Star Trek, with an “R” rating

Image
In the year 2016, Star Trek celebrated its 50th anniversary. I was, and still am, a fan of the original series, having grown up with while among hippies, stoners, and other counter-cultural types watching it during its reruns in the 70's. However, I still think it's amazing how a show that lasted barely three seasons and suffered from low ratings throughout its run would eventually spawn multiple knock-offs in the form of numerous TV shows and movies, a language (Klingonese), and what in many ways could be interpreted as a religion and a way of life. Oh yeah, and let's not forget BILLIONS of dollars in revenue. One cannot deny the cultural impact of Star Trek . In addition to providing social commentary in numerous episodes, countless engineers and technicians were inspired to become engineers and technicians by watching the show. Unlike most science fiction, it is a model of an ideal, non-dystopian future, where humanity evidently solved all of its chronic and...

THE LANDING SPOT FRIDAY NIGHT MOVIE! TONIGHT'S FEATURE DEAD HEAT (1988)

Image
DEAD HEAT is a 1988 American buddy cop zombie comedy film directed by Mark Goldblatt and starring Treat Williams and Joe Piscopo. The film is about an LAPD police officer who is murdered while attempting to arrest zombies who have been reanimated by the head of Dante Laboratories in order to carry out violent armed robberies, and decides to get revenge with the help of his former partner. Detectives Roger Mortis and Doug Bigelow are called to the scene of a rather violent jewelry store robbery. The robbers take on a squadron of police in a messy shootout, but neither seem affected when they are riddled with bullets. Thanks to the combined, albeit extreme measures of Mortis and Bigelow, they are able to take out the criminals, their acts narrowly avoiding termination. Meanwhile, a coroner friend of Roger's, Rebecca informs the detectives that the two bodies they had brought in had previously been to the morgue: not only do they have autopsy scars, but she herself clearly remember...

A Modern PC Love Story

Once upon a time, there was a bisexual albino black man named Charleton Bglippe who set off across the Golden Gate Bridge for the purpose of jumping from it. Originally from Nigeria, he was kidnapped by a Saudi prince, initially for amusement purposes, and then for sexual ones. Bglippe was repeatedly raped by Saudi Princes and Princesses before he was tossed into the Royal Stable, where the horses had their way with him. After escaping by hiding in a bag of cash bound for ISIL and stowing away on a container full of khat bound for Somalis in Canada, he made his way to San Francisco. Although very popular at first, they grew tired of his constant whining and utter lack of money and table manners. He was tired of it all; he was too black to be white, too white to be black, too gay to be straight, and too straight to be gay. His white female lover dumped him for someone blacker and less gay, and his black male lover dumped him for someone whiter and more gay. Bglippe had had enough, a...

WEINSTEIN IN FEAR OF BEING EPSTEINED?

Image
Harvey Weinstein to get special treatment as officials fear an ‘Epstein incident’ By  Larry Celona ,  Tina Moore  and  Lee Brown February 26, 2020  |  8:30am  Convicted rapist Harvey Weinstein will  get special treatment in custody  — because officials fear another “Epstein incident,” sources told The Post. Still reeling from the uproar after pedophile Jeffrey Epstein  managed to hang himself in his Manhattan lockup  last year, jail officials are taking extraordinary steps to monitor their newest high-profile inmate. Weinstein will always have his own cell, will constantly have a dedicated team of correction officers with him — and could even be shipped to a facility outside the city, sources said. “The last thing you want is another Jeffrey Epstein incident,” a jail source told The Post. “Harvey is going to be isolated as much as possible and will always have a detail with him throughout the prison. He’s nev...

A note from VJ...

Image
Hello! One of the purposes of this blog is to promote my book Dark Resurrection and get people to read the story. I have been neglecting that task due to several factors. One, I want to keep people interested in this blog by posting my favorite movies and the like. Two, not having time to devote to this blog due to the need to earn money by my Ebay presence. Three, working repairing wiring harnesses for trucks at a towing company. Money is very tight and I'm honestly overwhelmed by the tasks before me. I confess that I am rather discouraged as well, having tried to market my work for 17 long years with no real success. Albert Einstein made blunt remarks regarding such repetitive actions and was not at all complimentary in doing so. I do wish, perhaps foolishly, that I could earn a living from writing or blogging, but it is plainly evident to me that it is not going to happen. At any rate, I would like to put up the book in the fashion I did on the Disqus channels, chapter by ch...

THE LANDING SPOT WEDNESDAY NIGHT MOVIE! TONIGHT'S FEATURE: THE THIRTEENTH FLOOR (1999)

Image
THE THIRTEENTH FLOOR is a 1999 neo-noir science fiction crime thriller film written and directed by Josef Rusnak, and produced by Roland Emmerich. It is loosely based upon Simulacron-3 (1964), a novel by Daniel F. Galouye, and a remake of the German film World on a Wire (1973). The film stars Craig Bierko, Gretchen Mol, Armin Mueller-Stahl, Vincent D'Onofrio, and Dennis Haysbert. In 1999 Los Angeles, Hannon Fuller (Mueller-Stahl) owns a multibillion-dollar computer enterprise and is the inventor of a newly completed virtual reality (VR) simulation of 1937 Los Angeles, filled with simulated humans unaware they are computer programs. When Fuller is murdered just as he begins premature testing of the VR system, his friend and protégé, Douglas Hall (Bierko), who is also the heir to the company, becomes the primary suspect. The evidence against him is so strong that Hall begins to doubt his own innocence. LINK TO MOVIE: https://ok.ru/video/261332994609

Stanley Kubrick: A Flawed Genius

Image
Stanley Kubrick trying his best...to look like a camera In between the Golden Age of Hollywood that ended in the late 50's and the New Hollywood that began in the early 70's, to me, one director stands out: Stanley Kubrick. Kubrick was the creative force behind many of the most significant and iconic films ever made, and to this day, his work is closely studied in film schools and discussed elsewhere worldwide. A jack-of-all-trades and a master of most, Kubrick directed, wrote or co-wrote, and produced the majority of his films, most of which even the most casual movie-goer has seen, or at least heard of. Kid Kubrick into his work NYC hot dog gobblers A showgirl shows her shoe Kubrick always liked a good mask Although never having a formal education in his chosen profession, Kubrick demonstrated his innate talents at an early age as an amateur and then professional photographer, and his photographer's eye remained with him for ...
