Democrats Are Looking At Nancy Pelosi As A Successor After Midterms House Democrats have begun looking for a replacement for Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who will likely step down after the midterm elections in November. Rep. Hakeem Jeffries, D-N.Y., is the early favorite to succeed Pelosi, but infighting between the party’s far-left and moderate wings might complicate the process. Moreover, after various far-left initiatives in President Joe Biden’s Build Back Better Act were pulled out owing to lack of support from the party’s more moderate wing, Democratic infighting may focus on maintaining his plan. The law has yet to clear the Senate, and if the Democrats lose control of Congress in November, it may collapse. Rep. Ro Khanna of California, a Sen. Bernie Sanders presidential campaign backer, has urged House Democrats to adopt a stronger left-wing platform.
